Mats founded Nynäshamn Nature School in 1988. With his engagement for nature and environmental issues, Mats has during the years established a large social network within the Nynäshamn municipality. Through various projects and campaigns, the Nature School cooperates with several municipal departments, like the Water and Sewage dept., Environment and Social Planning dept., the Property dept., etc. For the last 20 years, Nynäshamn Nature School founded by Mats has been a resource by developing schools’ and preschools’ outdoor environments to stimulate learning and physical activity outdoors. By contributing to the production of the “Learning Outdoors” book series, Mats and his school has got more and more educational assignments outside of Nynäshamn. Mats has been abroad several times to hold outdoor teaching workshops in Japan, China, South Korea, Russia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Slovenia, where he let the participants actively do the outdoor pedagogical exercises that are presented in the books.

Mats is interested in spreading the idea using nature with adults, kindergarten and schools. He believes that getting people out into the nature will encourage them to appreciate and take care of the nature and help people adopt it as a way of living.
